1955 TERRY - MODEL 18
This eighteen foot, 1955 Terry Model 18 is an actual barn find, i.e., it was used for one or two seasons in the mid-fifties and then literably put away in a barn and never used again. The person who found it before me, unfortunately, then kept it outside for a couple of years uncovered, and since he lived in Santa Cruz near the ocean the elements got to the paint, as you can see in the photos below. However, the exterior skin itself was still in good, mostly undented shape and the interior looks like it's hardly ever been used....
which, is true. The person who purchased this trailer from Birchwood Beauties, fortunately, decided to
have the exterior repainted back to it's original colors and, as you may have have noticed, instead of polishing the aluminum window frames, they were painted to go along with the paint scheme....which, I think not only works very nicely, but it's less upkeep as well. Also, at my suggestion, the new owner
had us add correct-for-the-period, Coker Classic 2 7/8" wide-white-wall tires and we also powder-coated
the wheels in pastachio green to, not only complement the colors of the trailer, but to complete that authentic fifties look as well. Before the shell was stripped and repainted all of the windows were also removed and the old weather stripping was replaced, then the skin was completely sealed. The tail lights, license plate light, clearance lights, electrical connector and door hold-backs were also removed and also either restored or replaced before being being reattached. However, we didn't have to do a thing to the interior...it was already in the amazing condition shown in the photos on the following page.
