DESCRIPTION OF STANDARD RESTORATION PROCEDURES
All original interior wood is examined for water damage and rot, replaced if necessary, then restored to match the original finish applied when the trailer was built, by applying three coats of exterior grade Marine Spar Varnish, with sanding inbetween each coat. Then the finish is waxed to a high gloss. Airstream interiors with aluminum walls and ceilings are cleaned and then repainted with Zolatone paint, if necessary. Other coaches with painted metal walls, such as Silverstreaks and Streamlines, will be stripped and repainted.

Original appliances such as the refridgerator, stove, sink and toilet/shower/tub are checked and repaired if necessary. (Under the condition that a trailer is missing the stove and/or refridgerator, replacement vintage, or new “vintage-style”, applicances will be located and installed at additional cost, a figure which will be determined by customer’s preference.)

All original interior light fixtures are checked, polished and repaired, if necessary.

All original interior cupboard and cabinet doors and latches are checked, repaired and polished....or if necessary, replaced. (If it becomes impossible to located replacement handles that match the existing original handles, all the handles may be replaced according to the client’s choices and direction, and at additional cost.

If the trailer came with an original dinette with “pullman” type seat cushions, all cushions will be re-upholstered in Birchwood Beauties vinyl (aka...genuine naugahyde) in solid or two-tone color choices.

All original interior vinyl seam piping...or welt...is replaced in the customer’s choice of Birchwood Beauties color-keyed welt.

Any existing carpet or linoleum is removed and the remaining interior floors are cleaned. The customer’s choice of new, vintage style, linoleum, tile or carpet is installed.

Floors are checked for water damage and wood rot and if found repaired and/or replaced where necessary.

All original heating and air conditioning systems are checked and repaired if necessary and the parts are available. (Replacement appliances are available at additional cost and will be priced according to individual need and preference.)

All original plumbing fixtures, water lines and connections and drian pipes are checked, repaired and/or replaced if necessary.

Original propane lines and connections are checked and repaired an/or replaced if necessary and new “compliance” tank(s) are installed.nd if necessary, repaired. Water damaged wood is replaced and glued together, then stainless steel wood screws are added for additional strength and a penetrating wood sealer is applied for water tightness.

If neccessary, (and especially with small “Canned Ham” type camping trailers it most always is....) all original aluminum window frames are removed from the trailer, completely disassembled and each individual piece is then hand polished to a high gloss using a combination of Aircraft polish, copper-wire brush and fine grade steel wool. In addition, the original galvanized nuts and screws (which are usually completely rusted) are replaced with stainless steel nuts and screws. The windows of Spartan or Airstream type trailers are cleaned and their outside aluminum faces are polished to a high gloss.

All windows are recaulked around the entire perimeter of each window, all window screens are replaced and any broken window glass is replaced.

All exterior running lights are checked, repaired and/or replaced if necessary.

All exterior rain gutters, seam coverplates and storage covers are removed, checked, repaired (or refabricated if necessary), and then replaced. (Please Note: If the trailer is made by the Spartan Trailer-Coach Co. and has damaged exterior aluminum seam covers and/or rub rails the cost to repair and/or replace them will be estimated on a per-need basis.)

Duing a full restoration, where all the wall and ceiling wood is removed, all the original wiring is replaced, or it will also be replaced upon the customer's request, regardless, for an additional cost.

Vulkem sealant is applied to all aluminum skin seams, windows, roof vents and rain gutters.

All original door, window and storage compartment weather-stripping is replaced.

Dented, scraped or torn aluminum exterior skin, i.e., it cannot be repaired, is replaced at customer's option.

All original “galvanized” steel screws in the entire exterior skin of the trailer are replaced with “Stainless Steel” screws.

The exterior skin of the entire trailer is polished to a high gloss using only the highest quality Nuvite Aircraft Polishes.

The axle is checked for damage, evidence of bending from being overloaded and for any cracks or separation of old welds. Cracks are repaired, however, bent or damage axles will be replaced.

All wheel bearings, seals and races are replaced and regreased.

All original wheels are Epoxy painted in customer’s choice of Birchwood Beauties red, yellow, white, off-white, black or variations of gray and include chrome baby moon hubcaps and chrome trim rings. (However, powder coating is highly recommended.)

Original tires are replaced with new, bias ply, Marathon black-wall trailer tires. (Vintage Bias Ply white-wall tires are also available at additional cost)

The original braking system is checked, repaired and if necessary. (If the current electric brake system is not repairable due to outdated parts, etc., new replacment backing plates with new brakes and, if necessary for compatibility, replacement wheels and/or hubs will be supplied at additional cost. In addition, replacing a hydraulic braking system, or converting it to an electric system, is also available at additional cost.)

Original tail and stop light fixtures & housings are checked and repaired and/or replaced if necessary.

The tongue and hitch are checked, repaired, stripped, primer coated and repainted with the customer’s choice of Birchwood Beauties Epoxy paint in either gray, white or off-white.

The original chassis/frame is checked for rust and/or cracks and welding repairs are made accordingly.

All exterior door handles and latches are either repaired, if possible, or replaced.

New keys are made for the original entry door lock, if necessary, as well as, new replacement locks for all exterior storage compartment doors.
