RESTORATIONS PAGE
One of the main reasons that Birchwood Beauties Vintage Trailer-Coach Co. was formed was for the privilege of bringing back to life as many examples of antique trailer-coaches as possible through the pain staking, yet extremely rewarding process, of high end, superior quality, restoration....similar to what you would find at the finest classic automobile restoration shops. (For more information on that, please click here <BBVTCC Description of Standard Restoration Procedures>). Our dedication to producing the best work possible is unequalled....(you can read about that here <BBVTCC Philosphy of Business Practices>) ....and is enhanced, not only by our attention to detail, but, by possessing the historical and creative knowledge necessary to assist you in creating correct and authentic statements of 1930s, '40s, '50s or early '60s period style in both interior and exterior restoration. In addition, for those who also want the added comfort and convenience of modern upgrades, pretty much anything is possible, especially with everything that's available in high-tech on the market today, and it can all be installed in a manner that will retain the look and flavor of the original interior, if so desired. Or, we also offer the option of completely starting over with an interior fabrication in a style drawn from your own imagination. At Birchwood Beauties our attitude is...it's your coach, do with it as you please. There are no hard and fast rules, other than for a completely authentic, Concours d'Elegance type, restoration...which we'll do too. In addition, when we restore an original birchwood interior, we've developed a process whereby we can retain that original vintage, honey colored look of the old, varnished patina. We also know how much work restoring a vintage trailer-coach is, therefore we offer a variety of services from simple repair work, to partial restoration, to complete restoration or redesign. In addition, no coach is too big, or too small. We can do anything from repair a soft spot in the floor of your 14 ft. Shasta, to installing a full wood interior in an Airstream, to polishing your 35 ft., Spartan Royal Spartanette....which is exactly what we did for Ms. Lindy Flynn of Olema Ranch, CA. As you can see in the
photos below, I personally towed her coach off of the beach and back to my shop, and then my guys then spent three weeks removing years of oxidation from her skin, changing this dowdy beach-comer, to a gleaming princess with an incredible mirror finish.

AND....HERE'S OUR FIRST FULL RESTORATION

A 1954 TRANSA-TRAVELER 17 FT.

The first trailer to actually begin it's restoration at our first tiny, one-trailer shop was
this 1954
Transa-Traveler 17 ft., "canned ham" style camping trailer which we all
affectionately refer to as the Kansas Traveler, or KT.....pictured below.

REFABRICATING AN ORIGINAL ALUMINUM DINETTE BASE FOR

A 1953 SILVER STREAK CLIPPER 22'

Another job I personally completed recently is the fabrication and installation of an original style aluminum dinette base, the bulk-head wall to support it, <'53 Clipper Dinette Base>, and a birchwood shelf in the center (see photo above)...which has a door that opens up into a tiny storage compartment below, <'53 Clipper Storage Compartment>.....in a 1953 Silverstreak Clipper I sold.<'53 Silverstreak Clipper> As you can see in this photo of the interior <'53 Clipper Interior> the entire original dinette was missing, except for the shelf, and the client (who prefers to remain anonymous) wanted it rebuilt. Fortunately, one of my other clients, Jason and Natalia Latimer, has a '52 Clipper <'52 Clipper> that we've been doing various restoration work on from time to time, including, adding a new axle and new red, powder-coated "smoothie" style wheels and baby moons, <'52 Clipper wheels> and, most recently, replacing the rusted out tail-light housings with new, stainless steel units, then rewiring all the trailer lights. We also replaced a missing window frame & glass with one from a donor-parts trailer and had a new propane support base welded onto the tongue. In the future we'll be adding a larger fresh water tank, replacing the belly pan and finally, polishing up the skin on this great looking trailer-coach. Fortunately, this Clipper still has the original dinette intact, <'52 Clipper Dinette>, so, I was able to photograph and measure it and then get an exact replica fabricated by my sheet metal shop. I then installed it, along with the birch shelf I'd made and the client will have the cushions fabricated and upholstered himself.
